EPFO Extends September 2026 PF Due Date to 31 October After Wage Ceiling Revision

Salary-Tools Team · 13 October 2026

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the due date for filing the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) and paying PF contributions for the September 2026 wage month. The new deadline is 31 October 2026, instead of the usual 15 October.

The extension was announced in an EPFO Head Office circular dated 13 October 2026, issued with the approval of the Central Provident Fund Commissioner.

Why the deadline was extended

The PF wage ceiling was revised with effect from 17 September 2026. Because the change took effect in the middle of the month, employers had to rework pay-bills, payroll settings and employee-wise contribution calculations for September.

EPFO says it received many representations from employers about the technical, operational and administrative difficulties this caused. The extension gives establishments time to complete payroll revisions and file correct returns.
